St Mary’s Parish, Portglenone, is organising a 5 Mile Sponsored Walk in aid of the Sudan Missions. Money raised will go to ‘The Mother of Mercy Hospital’, Gidel, Nuba Mountains, Sudan. The walk and the funds raised are supporting the work of Fr Thomas McDonnell, a Kiltegan priest, and native of Portglenone Parish, who has devoted much of his forty year priesthood to work in Sudan.
The walk is on Saturday 22 June and begins from the village square at 1 pm. We are appealing for people to take sponsor sheets and take part in the walk but you can also collect funds and nominate a walker. Alternatively you can simply make a donation and come along for the walk. For the serious walker/runner the distance is 5 miles but the event is really about community effort and enjoyment, so the path of the walk has been arranged to suit people of all ages and fitness levels. So feel free to come along to run, jog, walk or dander!! The route (more details later) will be suitable for buggies too.
There will be a cup of tea for everyone in the GAA Hall after they have completed the walk.
Please support this very good cause. For more details, or to collect a sponsor sheet contact: Damien Clarke (028 25 821048) after 5:00 pm.
Alternatively John Brookman (football) and Marie Doherty (camogie) can provide you with sponsor sheets.
