Club Maith Accredition Scheme - An Update

In 2011 Roger Casements committee decided to apply for a Club Maith award. Two clubmen, both very highly capable and experienced administrators, namely Liam O Kane, and Ciaran Mc Donnell selflessly allowed their names to go forward to deliver the project on behalf of the club, and last Saturday (12 November) saw this extensive programme reach its conclusion.

Club Maith is an accreditation scheme which allows clubs to benchmark itself against best practice in all aspects of club governance. This includes, but not limited to aspects of club activity such as Duty of Care, Community Enhancement, Coaching and Games Development, Facilities, Culture & Heritage Club Policy and many other important core roles in the running of a GAA club.

There are four awards possible. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, each depending on achieving increasing levels of criteria. Platinum, the highest award is beyond our expectations due to the fact that in order to achieve the very highest level a club must participate in at least four codes. Therefore the highest possible award we can obtain is Gold.

The assessors left Portglenone on Saturday full of praise for our club, and we now wait patiently for them to deliver the result to us. Silver would be a highly satisfactory award, Gold would simply be an amazing achievement, so fingers crossed, we should know the outcome and inform club members in due course.

In the meantime the club executive committee, on behalf of its members would like to publicly thank all the very many club members and volunteers who assisted in this five year programme, with a huge thank you to Liam and Ciaran for their painstaking attention to detail and commitment to seeing out this exhaustive, but hugely rewarding exercise.
